Located in Middle Sonaichari, Shitalpur, our facility powers Bangladesh’s circular economy. We transform decommissioned vessels into reusable steel, machinery, and non-ferrous materials. This supports local industry, cuts reliance on imports, and helps the national economy.
Infrastructure, Capacity, and Operational Strength
Located on the Bay of Bengal's intertidal coast, BOB Recyclers makes the most of its strategic position. We safely and efficiently dismantle a wide range of ocean-going ships, including bulk carriers, general cargo vessels, and specialized vessels.
We continually improve our operations to meet market demand and stay compliant. In partnership with our sister company, we recycle 10–20 vessels each year. The number depends on a vessel’s size and complexity. We are upgrading our technical infrastructure to increase per-vessel capacity from 10,000 MT to 15,000 MT. This will improve efficiency, safety, and environmental management.
Our strong inland logistics enable the quick delivery of reclaimed materials to over 300 re-rolling mills in Bangladesh. This gives downstream industries consistent value and smooth operations.
Commitment to Green Ship Recycling
At BOB Recyclers, sustainability is at the center of what we do. We are among the first in Bangladesh to move to ship recycling yards that follow the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC), adopted in 2009. The HKC sets global standards for safe, eco-friendly recycling and becomes effective worldwide in 2025.
Our progress toward Green Yard status comes from significant investment and a clear implementation plan. We have impermeable working zones with sealed surfaces to prevent leaks. We have advanced drainage and waste containment systems to control water and collect waste. Our hazardous materials sites are designed for managing dangerous substances. All recycling follows Ship Recycling Facility Plans (SRFPs), which list required procedures and safety controls. These ensure work is systematic and controlled.
Protecting the environment is a top priority. We use strict measures to prevent soil and sea pollution. We properly separate and dispose of hazardous waste using licensed companies. We maintain full traceability of all materials throughout the recycling process. BOB Recyclers works under strict regulatory and governance rules, meeting both national and international standards. Our operations comply with the Bangladesh Ship Recycling Act, 2018, as well as relevant environmental and labor laws. We also align with global practices under the Hong Kong Convention (HKC) framework.

Mahinur Ship Recycling Limited (hereinafter referred to as "MSRL") commenced its business in 2016. Under the continuous leadership of its chairman, the company has recycled more than 120 ships to date, involving financial arrangements with over 10 banks.

BOB (Bay of Bengal Recyclers) is based on the historic Sitakunda coastline. It sits at the center of a major global ship recycling cluster. The stretch from Faujdarhat to Sonaichori provides ideal conditions for safe, efficient vessel recycling. Our operations are rooted in this legacy. The ship recycling industry began here and is now vital to Bangladesh’s economy. This sector supplies raw materials to the steel industry and supports national industrial growth.

The industry began with conventional dismantling methods. BOB was founded with a vision: to make ship recycling safe, environmentally responsible, and globally compliant. As international safety and environmental standards advanced, we proactively aligned our operations. This marked a shift from traditional practices to a compliance-focused model based on sustainability, accountability, and excellence.

BOB is among the first to turn Bangladesh’s ship recycling sector into HKC-compliant Green Yards. We invested over BDT 120 crore to modernize our facilities and meet international safety and environmental standards. Upgrades include impermeable working zones and advanced drainage systems. We created dedicated hazardous waste management and storage. Strict safety procedures now guide entry and hot work. We also implemented strong environmental protection measures. Detailed Ship Recycling Facility Plans (SRFPs) ensure systematic and transparent operations. These efforts demonstrate our commitment to the Hong Kong International Convention (HKC) 2009, which became effective globally in 2025.
